Houston non-profit community program center held on child pornography charges
Following a hearing today, United States Magistrate Judge Nancy Johnson ordered Christopher Clark Pollett, 62, a Houston resident and employee at a Houston area non-profit community program center, be held in federal custody without bond pending trial on charges of distributing child pornography, United States Attorney José Angel Moreno announced today.
Child abuse reports rise in South Florida
South Florida has seen a rise in child-abuse cases and officials are calling for more awareness after a year in which the state’s social service agency has investigated some gruesome ones. In Broward County, cases rose to 15,748 in 2010, compared with 14,876 the year before, according to the state Department of Children & Families. In Palm Beach County, cases rose to 12,183 — up from 11,947 the previous year.
Author who wrote ‘how-to’ for pedophiles arrested
The man behind a controversial book, considered a “how-to” guide for pedophiles, was arrested in Colorado, officials in Florida said Monday. “You cannot engage or depict children in a harmful relationship,” said Polk County, Florida Sheriff Grady Judd as he described the Florida obscenity statute officials used to charge Philip Greaves with distribution of obscene material depicting minors engaged in conduct harmful to a minors.
